Gutters are often overlooked as an important part of your total exterior envelope. If the bottom few courses of your wood siding is now soft, dilapidated, and flakey, chances are gutters could have bought you a little bit more time by catching, diverting, and depositing your roof's runoff water away from your home. When water continues to splash up onto your siding for years and years (and sometimes years), the siding is no match and will break down and fail.
